ACT Communications Contractor Scope of Work (Part-Time, $3–4K/month)
Overview: American Circular Textiles (ACT) is seeking a high-performing, execution-focused communications contractor to support our growing visibility across policy, media, and industry platforms. This is a part-time, monthly retainer role for someone with strong media instincts, writing skills, and an ability to manage logistics across a fast-moving, founder-led organization.Contractor should be comfortable with
Commitment:
Part-time contractor role
Monthly retainer: $3,000–$4,000 depending on experience and availability
~15–20 hours/month, with flexibility depending on key moments (e.g., events, speaking engagements)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Media Alerts & Press Releases (1–2/month)
Draft or edit content in collaboration with founder
Send through ACT’s media list
Manage responses and follow-up coordination
2. Event Support (2–4/year)
Assist in coordination, communications, and event asset development
Draft event descriptions, press blurbs, and talking points
3. Founder Speaking Engagements
Coordinate logistics for founder speaking opportunities (travel/lodging/payment)
Support topic alignment, talking point editing, and positioning strategy
4. Marketing Committee Management
Help run ACT’s bi-monthly Marketing Committee meetings (with ACT members)
Support with planning ACT-led webinars, events, and collaborative promotions
5. Inbound Press Support
Support drafting or editing founder press responses and positioning
Help manage press follow-up and coordination with professionalism and discretion
6. Proactive Media Outreach & Pitching
Pitch founder thought leadership to relevant podcasts, panels, and broadcast media
Secure visibility for ACT’s larger policy and advocacy work
7. Internal Communications & Updates
Join ACT’s monthly all-team calls to share comms updates
Participate in weekly team check-ins (typically under 30 mins)
8. Media Coordination & Membership Alignment
Coordinate messaging with ACT membership where appropriate, ensuring alignment and professionalism
Maintain and help build ACT’s press/media contact database, with the clear understanding that this database is ACT-owned and maintained solely for ACT use
Support the founder in managing media and member-facing communications, ensuring alignment and discretion at all times
Important Notes:
This is a contract support role within a small but highly visible organization working directly with lawmakers, national media, and executive-level stakeholders
Discretion, professionalism, and respect for boundaries around ownership of media, member, and policymaker relationships are critical
All relationships cultivated through ACT events, projects, or positioning are considered ACT and/or founder relationships—not contractor-owned
You Are:
A communications professional with demonstrated media experience—this is not a fit for aspiring publicists or those just starting out
Comfortable leveraging existing media relationships and building new ones to support ACT’s visibility
A confident and collaborative communicator who takes initiative
Results-oriented, not just a strategist
Comfortable supporting a fast-moving founder and aligning your work to hers
Ego-free and professional—you’re here to lift the mission, not center yourself
A fast learner who can pick up complex and nuanced topics quickly
Ideally, you have working knowledge or fluency in one or more of the following areas: federal and state policy, circularity, fashion/retail, or domestic manufacturing. You don’t need to know it all—but you need to be sharp enough to dive in fast.
